Dozens of local children attended the first Kinross Pipe Band "Come & Try" workshop at the Loch Leven Community Campus on Saturday 1st October where they were all given a chance to try every discipline in a pipe band - chanter, pipes, snare and tenor drum. The children mainly aged between 9 and 11, but with some as young as 6, approached all the challenges with enthusiasm, and many walked away with prizes of band caps and t-shirts, while all participants took home a small souvenir of the band in the form of a mini tub of sweets.

Competition winners
The Mains of Fintry Pipe Band under the leadership of Pipe Major Richard Smith has just returned from Poland. Following in their international success of playing at the opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing, China in 2008 and playing last September for Pope Benedict XVI in Edinburgh, they took part in the Polish Independence Day Celebrations in Gdynia on Friday the 11th of November.
They featured in the main parade through the streets of Gdynia followed later by a concert. Many thousands of people lined the one mile route in near zero temperature and were very much taken by the sound of the Pipes and Drums from Dundee.
The Band stopped on the route to be presented to the Mayor of Gdynia, Wojciech Szczurek and presented him with a framed photo of the Band, a bottle of Scottish Malt Whisky and a Plaque from the City of Dundee from Lord Provost John Letford.

Sunday 21st August
The branch held very successful branch-organised pipe band and drum major competitions as part of Crieff Highland Games. Events covered grades 1 to 4 including, for the first time, a grade 4 MSR. Results can be seen on the Calendar page and on the RSPBA website.
